Projects in engineering sciences, based in Wallonia, with original or protected technology.
An evaluation is carried out by WSL (and at its own cost) based on four well-defined fields: the intellectual property, the market, the technology and the quality of the team. If this evaluation which provides a global overview of the maturity of the project (MatMaX™) is positive and if the added value of WSL is conclusive, the project will then be presented to the Selection Committee, composed of members of the WSL Board of Directors and partners (local investors, experts,...). However, in the case of spin-off projects, often in early stages, some of these requirements can be postponed.
The proposed decision will subsequently be submitted to the Board of Directors' approval which renders the final decision.
The Board of Directors of WSL is composed of Wallonia representatives and predominantly of industry clusters representatives, as well as universities and research centers.
The duration of the partnership is 3 years, renewable twice for a period of one year. In the specific case of spin-offs, the initial duration of the partnership is 5 years.

These projects may come from a university or a research center through funding from DG06 (FSO), typically (but not limited to), or from techno-entrepreneurs.
They are no longer at the idea stage but have at least a prototype, with a potential reference customer having at least a MatMaX™ (3.3) score.

The WSL team is there at each stage of the support process
The WSL team is there at each stage of the launch and growth process.
The business coaches (BUCs) are located all around Wallonia and have particularly comprehensive profiles. They are specialized engineers with experience in entrepreneurship. In their day-to-day work, they combine their know-how of the local landscape with their sectoral expertise. Each BUC knows about the clients' projects of their colleagues and can step in with complete confidentiality.
These experienced partners provide highly valuable guidance to WSL young talents...This bond of trust established overtime between the BUCs and the business leaders is at the core of WSL added value.

How does it
really work?
Companies submit their application
During this processing time to integrate WSL Community, a few studies financed by WSL will be conducted, that is: a HR assessment of the business leaders, a market research, an IP assessment and if needed a technology review.
By the Selection Committee and the Board of Directors
After endorsement of the application by the Board of Directors, the support can begin. Your business coach will help you on a daily basis and will be able to guide you for the development of your project/company.

And also WSL Academy
WSL Academy is a training program dedicated to our members. This program aims to train and/or bring project owners up to speed in entrepreneurship.
Once or twice a year, 9 or 10 mornings in total are dedicated to training on distinct themes.
It ensures that everyone possess a minimal knowledge base in key areas related to entrepreneurship, thereby facilitating communication with our members through a shared vocabulary.
How much does it cost?
The contribution of the startup benefiting from a WSL partnership is two-folded
In case of success, meaning when and if your startup achieves a turnover of €1M with a positive balance, an invoice of €60,000 will be then be issued. This invoice can be turned into shares through a share transfer mechanism allowing you to regain shares of your company at an attractive price, the added value is yours!
A success fee supplement
